JEFF "BAD MOJO" MILLER - your co-host - Virginia Beach, VA

What else can you say about this guy? Not only is he your host for the shindig for the past 13 years, but he has danced, taught, and DJed at swing and blues events all around the country for over a decade. A Chicago-native with Blues still in his heart and soul, it is no wonder he got hooked on Blues Dance after his first exchange. He now lives, breathes, cries, bleeds, and plays Da Blues.

Get ready for some traditional Blues, acoustic remakes, new originals, and his famous curveball songs that make you say "WTF? - oh yeah, we gotta dance to this!"

In addition to organizing and DJing at dance events, he also plays a mean harmonica with several Blues bands over the past several years. He yearns for one day to write songs & play for you at the late nites. Who knows, you might see him on the stage too.

BRYAN "BOO BOO" SPELLMAN - your co-host - Denver, CO

Bryan has been helping organizing and gracing the DCBX DJ tables for a decade now and has been a bad enabler for craziness and shenanigans.

At over 6ft tall and broad-shouldered, armed with his trademark raised eyebrow and immaculate attire (if it’s not designer, it doesn’t go anywhere near him). He makes an imposing figure who commands respect. His confident appearance is matched by his masterful control of a good musical mix. Before each set he always powers down the previous track and leads the packed dance floor in a show of appreciation for the out-going DJ.

To watch Bryan DJ is part of the Blues experience. Cocky? Perhaps, but certainly not arrogant. A very precise and confident body language gives a visual indication to what he is playing as he dances out each track.

Would it really be Dirt Cheap Blues if Dave Warner wasn't there? We certainly don't think so. Dave is a regular DJ at Dance Blues Friday in Durham, NC, and the Music Coordinator for the Tobacco Road Blues events in the Raleigh-Durham area. He's played at blues events from New York at Charleston, and he's making his sixth straight appearance as a DJ at Dirt Cheap.

Dave continues to dig through new releases from veteran performers and emerging artists alike to keep his sounds fresh and keep dancers connected to the music. Expect to hear something new and exciting from Dave again this year!"

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.   ~Friedrich Nietzsche

Dancing is the poetry of the foot.    ~John Dryden

There are short-cuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them.   ~ Vicki Baum

Dancing is the loftiest, the most moving, the most beautiful of the arts, because it is no mere translation or abstraction from life; it is life itself.    ~ Havelock Ellis

Jeff is a quasi-nomadic dancer who currently resides in Pittsburgh, but has lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan.

His DJing philosophy is simple: just let ‘em dance. There’s nothing he enjoys more than losing himself in music and sharing meaningful dance experiences with partners.

He is currently working on ways to work his didgeridoo into his blues sets, but it is still a work-in-progress. This is Jeff’s fourth year spinning at DCBX and he mainly just comes back now for the “colorful” locals (ask him about the cornhole incident), the preponderance of t-shirts, and the ability to indoor skydive ... oh, and that squishy reclining chair in Jeff Miller’s living room.

Neve starting dancing near Washington D.C. at The Jam Cellar in 2004. Neve loves the vintage jazz which calls dancers to jive. "The music is upbeat, happy, and fun!" She remembers from childhood always loving jazz music and wanting to learn how to move to it. When she moved to Norfolk in 2010 she began teaching and Djing swing at Attucks Theatre. She started a weekly blues & fusion dance in 2011. Her passion is to continue to offer a safe space for dancing, community, and music. Neve believes it is healthy and essential for humans to gather together to have fun that includes movement and music. Neve believes the art of dance is something to be enjoyed and shared. Everyone can learn.

Neve is always on the search for obscure recordings. Her blues and swing selections have a traditional sound though she loves to throw in surprises. Watching the audience and playing to the room is important to Neve in order for her to nurture the dance scene and aid its growth.

Courtney has also been an integral part of keeping the Blues alive in Hampton Roads and we are honored to have her at the DJ table.  Not only can she dance like she has channeled the ole soul of Bessie Smth, but she will keep your feet a-groovin' all nite.

Be sure to ask her to dance fast, because her dance card fills up fast.

Tyler has been dancing and djing blues and swing for over a decade.  Swing got him hooked, blues stole his heart, and fusion is an illicit affair. His range includes perky quirky New Orleans swing to low down chocolate covered drive-you-into-the-ground blues.  He has gone to countless exchanges and has djed throughout the US including Lalfx, RCLX, PBJLX, Rocktober, MFA, CUBE, Rose City Blues, Portland Blues Experience, and Rain City Blues. He won the 2011 Show-Me blues DJ competition in St. Louis.

His goal when djing is to provide every dancer at least one song they feel compelled to dance and manipulates the energy to keep the dancers going.
