GENERAL INFORMATION

What is Dirt Cheap Blues?

An annual, budget-friendly blues dance exchange. It focuses entirely on music, dancing, and community.

Who hosts the event?

This year, Jeff Miller has passed the torch to Tidewater Blues Dance to take over responsibility for organizing and operating Dirt Cheap Blues.

VENUES & LOCATIONS

Where are the nightly dances held?

At the historic First Lutheran Church. It is located on Colley Avenue in Norfolk.

Where do daytime activities happen?

Activities are spread across the Tidewater area including Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Portsmouth.

How do we get to Portsmouth?

Take the Elizabeth River Ferry from Waterside. It is a quick and scenic ride. For those who prefer wheels, driving is also an option.

SCHEDULE & ACTIVITIES

What happens during the day?

You can choose beach time or urban exploration. Dancers hang out at Virginia Beach or explore Norfolk. Mix-and-match activities as you please.

What are the recommended Tidewater attractions?

The Elizabeth River Trail, The Pagoda, Chelsea District, The Chrysler Museum, The Hermitage Museum, The Norfolk Botanical Gardens, and Hampton University campus.

What should we do in Portsmouth?

Grab a pint at The Bier Garden. Catch a movie at the historic Commodore Movie Theatre. Sip a latte at Olde Towne Coffee.

What is the nightly schedule?

Dancing starts at 8:00 pm with an intro lesson. Social dancing with DJ’ed music begins at 9:00 pm and continues until 3:00 am. The schedule is the same Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Yes, our community welcomes everyone.

What should I pack?

Bring swimwear and sunscreen for the beach, walking shoes for trails, and comfortable dancing shoes.
